Will my child get spotted by Manchester United and become a Manchester United player?

The main focus on every Manchester United Soccer Schools course is that all children achieve success regardless of ability. The camps are not specifically designed as talent identification camps. However, we are confident that every child will leave the camps with the knowledge and skills to become a better player.

soccer_ballWill I meet any Manchester United players?

I’m afraid not – Manchester United players do not attend these camps. However, if your camp dates coincide with a Manchester United match, MUSS will always try to arrange for the group to attend. Also, you could win the Skills Test and have the opportunity to play at Old Trafford during a Premiership match!

soccer_ballMy English is not very good – is that OK?

Some of MUSS students have very limited English language skills but still have a great time on MUSS camps. The soccer coaches can easily demonstrate all of the skills and MUSS English language teachers are trained to work with students from beginner right up to advanced level. In 2011 MUSS hosted students of over 75 different nationalities – all interacting together to improve their communication skills in English.

When students arrive at the camp they are given a short English language test to determine their level and ability. Students are then put into small groups (maximum 16 per group) according to their ability. This enables MUSS staff to adapt the curriculum and the lessons to suit the ability of all the students in the class.

soccer_ballWill my soccer ability be good enough?

These camps are open to players of all abilities. The Manchester United Soccer Schools coaches are not only UEFA qualified but they are also highly experienced at coaching children of different nationalities. They are able to get the best out of all the players. Participants should expect an intensive programme that will improve their football skills. For the soccer sessions the students are grouped according to their age group.

soccer_ballHow much pocket money should I bring?

This is entirely up to the student and their parent/guardian. All the food and accommodation is provided, along with all the excursions. Students may wish to bring some money to buy souvenirs, Manchester United merchandise, extra drinks/snacks. Around £100 per week is a guideline figure.

soccer_ballCan I watch my child during the camp?

The safety and wellbeing of all children on MUSS coaching courses is of paramount importance to MUSS. MUSS therefore restricts visitor access to Wednesday morning only from 10am-11.30am. This will allow the children to settle into the Residential lifestyle and maintain their safety and security.

soccer_ballCan I stay on site with my child?

There is no accommodation for parents on site. Please contact email for a list of local hotels.

soccer_ballCan I store my money/valuables somewhere safe?

MUSS staff can offer a secure storage facility at the camp so children can deposit their money/valuables with MUSS staff and then take out a small amount of money each day. Please note that we are not liable for any items lost at the camp.

soccer_ballAre there any laundry facilities at the camp?

At all of MUSS camps there is the opportunity to do laundry, however, we recommend that students bring plenty of spare clothes/kit with them so that they do not have to do much laundry at the camp. MUSS staff will supervise and help the students to do their own laundry, but MUSS staff will not do their laundry for them. Some of MUSS camps may require a small fee to use the laundry service.

soccer_ballIs there internet/wifi available at the camp?

At all of MUSS camps children can use the internet through one of MUSS designated computer suites. Unfortunately there is no wifi available at any of MUSS camps.

soccer_ballCan my child stay for more than 2 weeks?

Each camp lasts 2 weeks, so if your child would like to stay for longer they can book two successive camps and stay for a total of 4 weeks. However, please be advised that MUSS 2 week camp is physically demanding and therefore staying for longer than MUSS standard 2 week camp may not be suitable for younger children.

For safety and security MUSS staff will only release participants under 16 years of age to named adults on departure. If you arrange an airport transfer with us then you do not need to do this.

soccer_ballAirport Transfers (see Transportation Information page):

Transfers can be booked for flights that arrive in the UK between 09:00 and 17:00 and depart the UK between 09:00 and 16:00. To book a transfer, please complete the relevant section on the online booking system or email us the flights details. For flights that arrive/depart outside of these times, we will refer you to our transport partners. Please contact us for further information.

At the airport your child will come through to the arrivals hall where he will see MUSS staff holding a big Manchester United Soccer Schools sign. If your child makes his way to this sign MUSS staff will meet him and escort him all the way from the airport to the venue. Depending on your child’s flight time, there may be a short wait in the airport as MUSS has to wait for other children to arrive. However, once your child has met with MUSS staff, he is supervised at all times.

Meet the Physio:

All staff on MUSS camps are dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of every child. The following highlights some key information on the physical aspects of the camp.

soccer_ballWhat will happen if my child gets injured during the course?

Injuries are unfortunately part of contact and collision sports such as soccer. A fully qualified professional, will be pitch side at all sessions to assess injuries and treat them accordingly. Anything urgent and the child is taken to hospital immediately. Physios are on the campus 24/7.

Manchester United Soccer Schools coaches help to minimize the number of injuries by ensuring that all children actively partake in an extended warm-up and cool-down before and after every session.

soccer_ballWhat if my child has an existing injury/weakness when they start the course?

If your child has sustained an injury prior to the course, please inform a member of staff as soon as possible. The physio will assess the injury on arrival and offer advice. All staff will be notified of the injury so they can monitor any changes.

MUSS takes great care when dealing with minor injuries, treating them thoroughly and effectively in order to reduce the chance of long-term problems.

soccer_ballIf my child is sick or unwell on the course what happens?

Minor problems are treated by physios. If a child is unwell, he or she will be taken to a doctor or to the hospital, accompanied by one of MUSS members of staff.

soccer_ballIs there anything in particular my child needs to bring for the training sessions?

Although it will be summer in England, the weather can be unpredictable so it is advisable to bring clothing that can cater to all weather types.

soccer_ballShin guards are an essential piece of equipment to remember. MUSS does not let children participate without them.

MUSS also recommend bringing soccer shoes with both short and long studs, so they are prepared for playing on all surfaces.

soccer_ballAvoiding blisters…

Newsoccer shoes, particularly in the summer when the ground is hard, can cause blisters. If your child has new soccer shoes MUSS advise to ‘wear them in’ before the course starts to avoid the risk of blisters. MUSS can treat blisters, along with any other minor injuries – abrasions, strains and bruising.

soccer_ballDiet, Nutrition and Hydration:

MUSS monitors each child to ensure he/she is eating and drinking enough to meet the demands of the course. MUSS also talk to the children about key food groups and the importance of a healthy diet.
