What is the maximum time my child can stay?

We suggest that students stay for two weeks as students tend to get homesick and tired after 2 weeks.

Who will meet my child at the airport?

Students should arrange to fly directly to London if possible. If you are worried about your child travelling alone contact the airline who should be able to provide assistance, especially if they have to change planes at another airport before arriving in London.

Students will be met by a member of Berlitz Manchester staff at the airport with a sign and an I.D. tag at the airport, the journey from Heathrow airport to the school takes about 35 minutes and just over an hour from Gatwick airport.

Can I watch my child during the camp?

The safety and welfare of children on the courses is of the utmost importance to us. Therefore, access to visitors at Kingston University is restricted ONLY to: Sunday morning from 10 am to 11.30 a.m (to be confirmed before camp starts). This will enable children to adapt to the lifestyle of the programme and maintain internal security and safety.

Chelsea Football Club does not allow access to the training site for friends or relatives accompanying the participant. Students are not allowed to take any recording equipment (including cameras and mobile phones) to the training ground.

What does my child need to bring with them?

Students should bring a variety of clothes for both hot and cool days. Students should remember to bring sports clothes/shoes, swimwear, towels, and some smart clothes to wear during the discos or school ball. Students may also like to bring their own football equipment football kit, shoes and shin pads.

Students are permitted to wear either Chelsea T-shirts, Berlitz T-Shirt or plain ones; no other branded shirts can be worn.

English Language Option and Daily Life:

How will you know my child’s language level?

Testing takes place on the first day and students are placed in classes according to their level of English.

How many children will be in each class?

There will be a maximum of fifteen students in each class, though classes for the juniors will be smaller.

Do they need to bring school materials or will Berlitz Manchester provide these?

Students should bring a pen and a dictionary, Berlitz Manchester will provide students with paper and other learning materials.

Who teaches the Chelsea Soccer Schools course?

The Coaching Programme is delivered by Chelsea Soccer Schools trained, UEFA qualified coaches using the Chelsea Soccer School Development Model.

How many coaching sessions will there be each week?

The course offers a minimum of 20 hours intense football training each week during the soccer only sessions, with practical sessions on skills and tactics, and classes on tactics, formations, nutrition and psychology. Use of Chelsea's state-of-the-art Cobham, Surrey training facility makes coaching sessions fun as well as educational.

Do I have to be good at soccer to join the course?

No, this course is for students of any ability level to improve their soccer skills

What happens if my child feels ill?

Berlitz Manchester has staff with first aid qualifications, if a student does feel unwell they will look after him but also there is a hospital and a doctor 10 minutes away from Kingston University.

Are the students allowed to leave the school in their free time?

Students are not allowed to leave the school during their free time, but there is such a wide range of activities that they are always busy. Nevertheless, if the student needs to go out to buy something, he must request permission and one of Berlitz Manchester staff will accompany him.

Do students have access to the internet?

Free and supervised internet access is available to all students.

Who will supervise my child throughout the day?

The happiness, safety and welfare of students is Berlitz Manchester main priority. They have staff on duty 24 hours a day, staff bedrooms are clearly labeled and important telephone numbers are advertised throughout the school.

Is there a laundry service?

Yes, there is a weekly laundry service, available to students at an extra cost. You should bring a washing net bag labelled with your name, for the total amount of washing that you will need done in a week.

What if my child has special dietary requirements?

Berlitz Manchester can cater for any dietary requirements as long as they are told before the student arrives. If the student does have dietary requirements or allergies, please provide details on the application form.

How much pocket money will my child need?

This depends entirely on the age and the personal preferences of the student and their family. Berlitz Manchester recommends approximately £35 to £45 per week (in addition to the £50 necessary for the deposit). This pocket money is for general spending (buying souvenirs on excursions, snacks from the school restaurant, etc).

IMPORTANT: The camp requires that all students make a deposit of £50.00 (British Pounds) in cash on arrival at the school against any damage they may incur while at the school. This will naturally be returned at the end of their stay if they are not responsible for any damages.

Student Welfare:

BERLITZ MANCHESTER takes the responsibility for their students extremely seriously - all aspects of safety are considered and they insist on the highest standards from their colleges. BERLITZ MANCHESTER has fully qualified first aiders but also a medical center on site and their colleges have links with local dentists, doctors and hospitals. The skill and enthusiasm of their dedicated staff has been the single most important factor behind their success.

Their ability to motivate and relate to young people is second to none. BERLITZ MANCHESTER ensure a staff: student ratio on - site of 1:15 and 1:8 off - campus during trips and excursions.

BERLITZ MANCHESTER staff go through a strict selection procedure, beginning with an interview. They are selected for their maturity, qualifications, enthusiasm, experience and common sense. All relevant qualifications held by staff are also thoroughly checked for authenticity with the appropriate issuing organization. All their staff attend comprehensive pre-camp training and orientation days. These courses cover a range of topics, from security, fire drills, policies and procedures, to safety guidelines and site-specific risk assessments for every activity. Meetings with center management team and staff take place on a daily basis and senior managers visit BERLITZ MANCHESTER site regularly to ensure that their procedures are clearly understood and followed.
